Cousin du Diable
An oil painting on canvas, this is an abstract painting predominantly using black and white oil paints. The background appears to be white paint with a black box on the upper half. The two colors are connected by a long black brushstroke down the middle. The brushstroke does not touch the edges of the canvas but instead takes up 2/3 of the canvas length-wise and 1/3 width-wise.

In the upper left, there are a series of sea creatures, including a grey colored shark, pink colored squids and two octopuses in shades of orange. The figures gesture wildly and strenuously twist their long athletic bodies into a seemingly infinite variety of contortions as they clamber up the last hilltops and trees. A city stands on a hill and appears through the trees in the background.

Subject matter
The name of this piece "Cousin du Diable" translates to "Cousin of the Devil" in English. The two blocks of opposing color are unified by the more organic brushstroke in the middle.
