Subject matter
This photograph depicts Miss Thompson, one of the two female models featured in a series of figure studies by Clarence White and Alfred Stieglitz in 1907. This print was published in Camera Work: A Photographic Quarterly, Issue no. 27 two years later as a photogravure. The nude woman is posed with her arm above her head, which she turns to the left side of the frame as she looks downward. The photograph focuses on the soft shapes and shadows created by her nude body.
