Subject matter
Susan Derges is interested in integrating art and science into her practice as a photographer. She created this series, The Observer and the Observed, by vibrating a jet of water with a loud speaker and strobe light set to the same frequency. For this series, she used herself as the subject, using the droplets as lenses to reflect her features, while her face remains blurred in the background.

Physical Description
A black and white photograph of droplets of water captured in suspension. Behind the water droplets, an eye is visible, though it is blurred by a shallow depth of field. In the water droplets, the eye is reflected upside down and in sharp focus.
