Sharing the Planet

I.B. Unit of Inquiry

An inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things; communities and the relationships within and between then; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.

This print shows a landscape with a mountain rising in the middle of the background. There are trees and grass in front, and a body of water in the foreground. At the center, on the edge of the water, sits a faucet, a razor, and a toothbrush in a clear glass as if the body of water is a sink.<br />
The print is signed (l.r.) "Doug Webb" and numbered (l.l.) "197/275" in pencil.

In this print, four women in shawls and layers of cloth are positioned on their hands and knees or laying on the ground. All of them are reaching for a small seed, perhaps a kernal of corn. Their bodies span two jagged cracks that split the ground in a small clearing in a field.

This small figure is that of a dog who has short legs, a thick, curled tail, small ears, and an elongated muzzle. Its mouth is open with pointed teeth bared and tongue slightly hanging. Its eyes include small mirrors and feature the white mineral <em>kaolin</em>. On the dog’s back is a large, mirror-topped medicine pack which has been sealed with resin.  There are two recesses on top of both hind legs which also likely held packets of medicine.  Near the top of the two front legs are hollow projections, which have broken off.
