Enrolls for National Service - Members
Text: Enrolls for National Service - Members - Instructions For Use - To the Principal or Teacher: Have the school children draw in the name of the school at the top of the poster after careful lettering under your direction. Exhibit the poster at the Lincoln's Birthday Exercise, and hang it in a prominent place during the enrollment period which ends on Washington's Birthday. At Washington's Birthday Exercise let some of the children, as part of the ceremony, paste in figures representing the number of children enrolled above the word Members.

The Way to Deadman's Cove
This vertical print is created as if the viewer is in a dark, coniferous forest, looking out to a glare of light indication the sea and cove. The forest scene has three trees in the middle of the composition; a straight narrow tree lies in the middle, with a tree next to it leaning diagonally to the right, and a smaller tree in the background to the left. On either side of the composition are more trees. Behind the middle trees we can see the forest open up with a lighter space. The bottom third of the composition shows the forest floor, a faint path, and shadows cast by the trees.

Village Wedding
A wedding party on horseback—led by the bride in white with a veil, and the groom in a cowboy hat—leaves a village while a crowd watches. Each of the horses is a different color, including red, gray, and different shades of brown. The people are dressed in bright, solid-colored clothes. Some wear brimmed hats. The village, consisting of a few houses and fields of green plants, palm trees, and trees with large purple and pink leaves, surrounds the wedding party on three sides. There is a clear blue sky overhead.

This is a photograph of an African American couple. A man sits inside his car, while a woman stands just outside, as if she is about to sit in the passenger seat. They both wear large raccoon coats.

This painting depicts the abstract form of a woman sitting in a chair with her head, shown in profile and tilted upward. There is a stringed instrument in her lap and her hands rest on the arms of the chair. It is painted in muted colors of aqua and lavender with brighter areas of yellow, orange and blue. The figure, chair and instrument are created with just a few black lines to suggest their forms.

Subject matter
Photographed from within a thickly-wooded forest, this photograph depicts the temperate landscape at the beginnings of spring, with most of the trees still yet bare of leaves. All the features in the scene appear to be in sharp focus, which flattens a sense of depth in the scene, thus compressing all the visual information into a single plane. Further, this flattening renders the multitude of branches, twigs, stems, and sticks of the forest into a dizzyingly patterned wall of interwoven lines and textures. Grounding the busy composition, the top of a lichen-splotched boulder sits in the foreground, the curving trunk of a small shad tree arching over it. In the center of the frame, the shad tree’s limbs are in full bloom, a rich smattering of cream-colored flowers adorn its branches. The cool grey-green of the surrounding trees’ bark complements the russet-colored forest floor.
