Subject matter
Rouaoult was a student of Gustav Moreau and worked along with Henri Matisse and other Fauvist artists. He often explored religious and spiritual themes, and although this scene of bathers does not necessarily reflect this interest, it is a theme he reworked many times. The elongated figures and dark tones of the print reflect Rouault's typically somber style. This print exists in several states, with a color version made four years later.

Physical Description
This black and white print shows several nude women in a landscape. The most prominent of the figures stands on the left side, eyes closed with her hands behind her head. Another figure to her left, sits with her back facing the viewer. In the center are two more figures, in the distance, and on the right is another standing figure and one kneeling. The background is dark and the figures are all outlined in bold black lines.
