Activity - Research the films behind the Soviet Constructivist Movie Posters
For this activity, you will work in a breakout room with some fellow students. You will have about 15 minutes to work on the activity in your breakout room.
There are no right answers. Let's have fun with this!
The exercise is
1) select one of the movie posters below.
2) Come up with a one- or two-sentence summary of the movie plot based on the poster and the title of the film.
3) spend a little time researching the film online.
It can be difficult to find information about these films online. Some can be found with a search on IMDB. Some on Wikipedia. Some on neither of those sites. A good strategy for them all is to do an internet search with "Soviet film" followed by the English-language title. Keep in mind that the names that you see associated with the posters are the artists who made the posters, not the film makers.
4) Prepare for a 2-minute discussion of what you've found that combines visual analysis of the poster with what you can find out about the plot of the movie. Does the poster tell the story of the movie? Do the movie and poster seem incongruous?
