Subject matter
This image depicts four Indian men posed on or around an overturned canoe. They are wearing garments tied around their hips and are all shirtless. The man standing behind the canoe faces the viewer in a confident manner holding a long fan in his right hand. While the image is clearly posed, the casual stance of the two men sitting and leaning on the canoe lend a sense of immediacy and spontaneity to the image.
