Subject matter
In this self-portrait by Nan Goldin, the artist prominently occupies the composition. The medium close-up shot of the artist is illuminated by a strong flash, such that only her face and upper torso are visible in comparison to the otherwise dark scene. The arm of a man wearing a long-sleeve shirt is barely visible on right background. The image is not entirely in focus, blurring her facial features and giving emphasis to the various shades of her red skin, tinted by her strained laughter.

Physical Description
Close-up view of a woman laughing with her mouth open wide.
