Credit LineGift of Gilbert M. FrimetSubject matterThis print is derived from plate one in a set of six lithographs depicting the process of shipbuilding and associated transportation feats. The series was published by P & D Colnaghi & Obach. The scenes, which vary from birds-eye views to more claustrophobic up-close encounters, like this one, in which workers labor on a cross channel train ferry, were recorded by Bone as he observed such work along the River Clyde in Glasgow.
Physical DescriptionLarge, wooden, vertical and horizontal beams frame the left side of this lithograph. They are supporting the sloping, shadowy underside of a large boat's hull, on which many men are performing maintenance and repairs.
Signed verso l.r., with scratch lettering, on stone, "Muirhead Bone"
