Subject matter Brenda Goodman is a feminist artist who is known for using her emotions to create her art and her revealing self portraits. She shares in interviews that she had a tense relationship with her mother who was very critical which is likely the inspiration for the title of this piece. The origins and subjects of the photographs in the collage are unknown but there appears to be themes of body perception and youth.
