The Ceramic Road: Cultural Exchange in Asian Ceramics

A white earthenware box where the cover and the body are almost identical in form, the entire vessel of a short cylindrical from with flat top, with subtle articulation at the shoulder, on a shallow footring.  It is covered in blue, amber, and green glazes applied in a splotchy manner.

This is an earthenware globular ewer on a tall flaring footring. It has a tall flaring neck with a coil ear-shaped handle extending from shoulder to belly. An "S" shaped spout extends up from the lower belly, which is stamped with floral designs and covered in green, amber, and cream glazes.

This is an earthenware flask with a tall flattened body, short neck with direct rim to one side, and two peirced, flattened lugs for a strap handle. It is incised with a floral scroll on the body and has a domed lid with tall rim and pointed finial. It is covered in a green lead glaze with iridescence and calcification.

This is an earthenware model of a horse dressed in a saddle blanket and saddle. It has a short, upward pointing tail and trimmed mane. The saddle is painted with reddish mineral pigment.

A stoneware ewer with an straight sided body and a rounded shoulder.  It tapers slightly towards the foot.  On top of the shoulder is a straight, tall neck with an everted rim.  There is a coiled handle extending up from shoulder neck junction towards rim, then curving back down and attached to shoulder.  Opposite of the handle is a short faced spout, and in between the handle and spout are two loup lugs applied to the neck-shoulder junction. Below the lugs and spout are sprig molded and applied images of Central Asian dancers and musicians, covered entirely in a straw-celadon glaze with brown glaze applied to the danceers and musicians.

An earthenware figure of a man wears pants and a long coat with tight sleeves and a wide collar belted at the waist. He stands on a square platform with one hand raised. His face has a wide nose, big eyes, and big lips; his hair is pleated down the middle and braided around his head. The coat is colored in amber and green glazes.

Fired upside down (tripod on interior) and upright. Colors are green, yellow, aubergine, green-white. Slightly restored.
