Subject matter
A photograph from a portfolio of images in which Helmut Newton depicts celebrities, designers and models in highly contrived poses and often placed in decadent scenes. In this photograph, a model stands on a balcony at the Hilton Hotel in Paris. Her arms are outstretched as she leans gracefully on the railing. The Eiffel Tower, which Newton referred to as a Mecanno set, is framed in the background of the scene. The woman wears a long, open sweater and sheer underwear, one breast exposed as she looks toward the camera.
