Subject matter
A photograph from a portfolio of images in which Helmut Newton depicts celebrities, designers and models in highly contrived poses and often placed in decadent scenes. In this photograph, a nude woman stands with her back to the viewer poolside in Saint-Tropez. With one knee bent, she faces to the right, looking over her shoulder toward the pool which extends beyond the frame past the director's chair.
