Subject matter
This photograph presents a close-up view of two Soviet test-flight dogs, Mishka and Tsyganka. On the left, Mishka’s head, which is engulfed by her long black fur, pokes out of the braided and buttoned astronautical suit designed to protect her from the temperature and pressure variations of space. Tsyganka is fully outfitted in flight gear, appearing more like a robot than a small dog.
