Subject matter
In this photograph, an anonymous figure in dark clothing and triangular hat crosses a sandy road somewhere in rural Viet Nam. Though occupying a central place in the composition, this person seems almost like an afterthought, dwarfed by the monumentally scaled palm trees that gather on either side of the road. The pointed, near-black fronds of these trees contrasts highly with the pale sky behind them. The horizon line is quite low, which allows the sky to dominate much of the photograph's area.

Physical Description
Palm trees line both sides of a road which leads toward a mountain in the distance. An anonymous, darkly clad figure appears to cross the road near the lower center of the photograph.
