Credit LineGift of Margaret and Howard BondSubject matterThis photograph shows a nearly empty landscape, the so-called Field of Boaz, under a clear sky. Little visual information outside of the label at the bottom serves to identify the location as the site of a significant Old Testament story. A ridge of piled up stones cuts diagonally through the foreground of the photograph. Beyond, rocky terrain cedes to open fields, punctuated here and there by rows of trees or grazing animals. Softly undulating hills form a somewhat high horizon line. This image is one of hundreds of photographs made throughout Bonfils' career which purport to document various landscapes, cityscapes, and people of the eastern Mediterranean.
Physical DescriptionA line of piled stones provides the border to a large, open field which rises gradually in the distance.
