Credit LineGift of Margaret and Howard BondSubject matterRows of neatly arranged flowers and trees, surrounded by a wood and stone fence, indicate the biblical Garden of Gethsemane. The viewer looks down into the garden as through from a second- or third-story window, just above the branches of a large olive tree. The medieval walls of Jerusalem trace the top left edge of the photograph; the sunbathed stone almost blends in with the pale sky. This image is one of hundreds of photographs made throughout Bonfils's career which purport to document various landscapes, cityscapes, and people of the eastern Mediterranean.
Physical DescriptionA view down onto a fenced-off garden; a crenellated stone wall and dome are visible in the background.
