Credit LineGift of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon SobelSubject matterThis photograph depicts a view of a snow-coated mountainside, a cloud bank grazing the crags of its summit. The photograph’s composition is divided in half by the mountainside, the eventful sky filling the upper-half. Shining through and beyond the clouds, sunlight gleams brightly off the snow encrusted slopes. Casting long, streaking shadows below, the waves of clouds billow outwards in curved, undulating bands, leaving vaporous tendrils behind. The shifting atmospheric movement of the clouds creates a contrast to the relative stillness of the frigid mountain slope.
Physical DescriptionThis photograph depicts a view of a snow-capped mountain with clouds grazing its surface.
