Subject matter
Likely taken in rural Bengal, this photograph depicts a village scene or market, with a number of thatched-roof buildings situated on either side of a dirt path that recedes towards the background of the image. Following the path one can see an abandoned carriage in front of the foreground building, and market-goers crossing the street towards the middle-ground of the photograph. Behind the buildings a number of trees stretch their branches over the scene.
