Subject matter
The painting depicts the river Ouse near London, a bridge (constructed 1811-13), St. Paul's Cathedral, and the Swan Inn in the distance. Two groups of figures are shown fishing and boating.

Physical Description
A river cuts through the middle of the composition, leading under a bridge in the background to the rising skyline of a city, with a church spire rising most prominently. In the left foreground, two men prepare to fish; in the right foreground, several boats are about to collide.
