Subject matter
A young woman stands on the front porch of a miniature house, leaning against its propped open door. A man, whose head is not visible, stands behind her, strongly gripping her upper arm. They appear comically disproportionate with the size of the house, especially the miniature chairs, tables, and teaset on the porch. The strong verticality of the figures appear dissonant with the landscape orientation of the photograph. The sense of constraint is further accentuated by the tightly framed composition, following the contours of the patio--the supporting columns on either side, the edges of the floorboards, and the fascia.
