TitleGround Zero LXIX, from "Landscapes at Ground Zero"
Artist(s)David SeccombeObject Creation Date2001Medium & Supportarchival pigment print on Somerset rag paperDimensions 19 in. x 13 in. ( 48.3 cm x 33 cm )
Credit LineGift of Jean McPhailSubject matterIn this photograph, a fragment of the base floor of the World Trade Center juts out from the ground like a steel shard against a bright-blue sky. Smoke rises from the mounds of wreckage days after two commercial airliners collided with the building's twin towers on September 11, 2001. The attacks on September 11 were traumatic and devastating to the people who experienced them, and their political effects were far reaching. Seccombe's photograph presents a chilling contrast between the obliterated structure and the blue sky and glistening skyscrapers nearby.
Physical DescriptionPhotograph of building wreckage. Smoke is rising from center of ruins.
