Subject matter
In this photograph, a fragment of the base floor of the World Trade Center juts out from the ground like a steel shard against a bright-blue sky. Smoke rises from the mounds of wreckage days after two commercial airliners collided with the building's twin towers on September 11, 2001. The attacks on September 11 were traumatic and devastating to the people who experienced them, and their political effects were far reaching. Seccombe's photograph presents a chilling contrast between the obliterated structure and the blue sky and glistening skyscrapers nearby.
