Subject matter
This illustration served as a frontispiece for a portfolio which included eight lithographs by Braque and text by D. Suzuski, E. Herrigel, and Braque himself. The title of the portfolio was Le Tir à l'Arc which translates to "archery." In this work, Braque has employed the motif of a bird in flight. This symbol became a kind of obsession for Braque in the later years of his work. Braque once stated "The bird is summing up all of my art." The bird seems to be a symbol of the free and expansive range of Braque's artistic career which spanned more than half a century.

Physical Description
This print shows a blue cloud-like shape with a white bird on the top plume and band of sparkles near the bottom. The artist's signature and edition number are at the bottom.
