Subject matter
This image depicts a large church in Burgos, Spain. The image is divided into two planes. The lower third is cast in shadow, where approximately six figures stand. Two figures in the distance walk toward the left side of the frame, while four figures stand in the foreground, two embracing and barely discernable. To their left are two wagons and a pile of branches. Above, the large church stands bathed in light, thus becoming the main visual focus of the composition.
