Subject matter
In this black-and-white photograph, a man wearing traditional Japanese attire stands atop a cantilevered rectangular platform, which juts from the top right of the image over a shadowy pool. He looks at a submerged toy car on the bottom left of the image; the toy car's bright form is visible but slightly distorted beneath gentle ripples of the water surface. The pool is bound on the left side by a diagonal edge and on the back by a wall of patterned stone tiles, with damp patches from water trickling down its surface from an unseen source above.
