Subject matter
Part of his work for the Farm Security Administration on a project to survey rural parts of the American south, this image shows a graveyard on a hillside, sparesly populated by headstones of various sizes and shapes. The sidewalk bordering the graveyard, from where the photograph is taken, is visible to the left of the photograph, as it leads to a row of houses in the background.
