The photograph appears to have been taken from a position slightly above the valley, perhaps on a small hill behind the trees in the foreground of the image, which positions the houses against a backdrop of trees, a village, and mountains in successive layers that convey the variety of the natural and man-made landscapes in this region of the French Alps.
