Subject matter
This photograph by the highly regarded Abdullah Brothers represents an Egyptian marketplace on a sunny day. A somewhat meager crowd of men, along with their pack animals, divide themselves into various groupings as they engage in buying and trading. The narrative that the picture suggests is more a situation rather than an event: this could be any day at the market. In addition, the composition lacks a center of emphasis, which serves to disperse the viewer's gaze across the entire surface of the photograph rather than allowing one to focus on a particular object or figure.
