Artist(s)Frederic SteeleObject Creation Date1937Medium & Supportetching on paperDimensions 6 in. x 8 in. ( 15.2 cm x 20.3 cm )
Credit LineGift of Prof. and Mrs. Alfred H. WhiteSubject matterThis print was a gift to Warren Lombard from the illustrator Frederic Steele. Frederic Steele is best known for his illustrations for the Sherlock Holmes novel. This print is certainly in a different vein. Steele employs a graphic style here: the rocks are shaded in opposite directions. This is an effective technique for shading, but also is decorative.
