The Temples of Greece which is comprised of black-and-white photographs depicting dramatic Greek landscapes, each accented by ancient ruins. The rich tonal ranges in the prints reflect the majesty of the expansive scenes. As described in the introduction of the portfolio, at Samothrace, “a sea mist is flowing up toward us through the valley of the Sanctuary of the Great Gods. There the pre-Olympians hold the hollow under the mountain’s shadow, receiving the sea’s caress, the salt touch on the velvet body.” -Vincent J. Scully, 1982
Physical DescriptionThis photograph depicts a temple in the lower left of rolling hills set in a rocky landscape. Clouds sweep over the mountains in the background.
