Subject matter
A photograph from a portfolio of images in which Helmut Newton depicts celebrities, designers and models in highly contrived poses and often placed in decadent scenes. In this photograph, two women meet in a doorway in the famously affulent 16th arrondissement in Paris where Newton resided. In the apartment, a maid stands staring anxiously at an upperclass woman who forcefully places her hand holding a clutch on the doorframe and stands with her other hand on her hip.
