Credit LineGift of Mr. & Mrs. W. Howard BondSubject matterThis photograph depicts the arched ceiling of a chapel in Gloucester, England, at such close range it is almost abstract in appearance. By eliminating nearly all contextual details, the photograph focuses attention on the gently curving X-shape of the ceiling seams, and the delicate tonal nuances of the building's materials. The only interruption is offered by the semi-circular dark brick arch at the bottom of the image. This is one of a series of ten photographs depicting English churches that Bond printed in 1980.
Physical DescriptionPhotograph of the intersecting lines of a ceiling.
