Subject matter
This photograph frames an elderly man dressed in a white shirt walking in an urban environment. The photograph is composed with the man’s profile in the center of the frame, the street beyond out of focus and blurred. The man’s head is bowed towards his hands, which he holds in front of himself, appearing to be counting coins in his palm. Behind the man, the blurred, dark shape of a tree’s trunk arcs in the opposite direction as the curve of the man’s neck and shoulders. In the far right of the photograph, the arm of another pedestrian is visible.
