Credit LineGift of Carol Wilke in honor of Manuel and Joan JacobsSubject matterBrown is an important painter and printmaker in California and was teaching at UC-Berkely when he created this print. Like many neo-expressionist artists, he uses his own memories and history in order to create meaningful images. In this print, he combines anatomically accurate studies of birds with ripe plums together as a kind of memory collage.
Physical DescriptionThis print shows a series of birds and plums scattered on the page. Two birds are framed within mint-green squares, and another is circled out with just the paper behind it. The rest of the birds and plums have a rust gold background that takes up most of the page. The print is numbered (l.l.) "17/50" and signed and dated (l.r.) "Christpher Brown 94" in pencil.
