Credit LineGift of Carol Wilke in honor of Manuel and Joan JacobsSubject matterThrough his sculpture, Babcock contrasts traditional sculptural materials, like metal and stoneware, with glass. This piece is part of a larger series of works in which he balances sculptural elements as representational metaphors for life. In this piece, the glass disc balances atop the bronze geometric shape, which in turn is precariously propped up by another bronze element and a stone. This is meant to conjure a kind of meditation on balance.
Physical DescriptionThis sculpture has a rectangular metal base supporting a gray stone and bronze rod, which together support a curved rectangular bronze element. A yellow glass wheel with a square radial and protruding dimples tops the work.
