Subject matter
This is a stoneware celadon jar of the Six Dynasties (220-589). High-fired glazed ceramics, especially celadons, developed rapidly during this time period and included a large variety of household, everyday wares. Jars such as this were made primarily for grain storage, and were placed in tombs to provide for the afterlife as well.

Physical Description
This large storage jar with wide globular shoulders tapers to a narrow base and narrow neck with rim articulation. Four strap lug handles connect the rim to the shoulder. The upper two thirds is covered in a celadon glaze.
