Subject matter
The scene portrayed in this lithograph is the first scene from the tale "Kamar Al- Zaman and the Jeweler's Wife," one of the Tales of the Arabian Nights. Chagall's illustrations of the Arabian Nights were his first in color lithography, of which he became a master. 

Physical Description
This is a series of ten individual and combined color layers for one lithograph. The scene is of a woman wearing short pants and headdress with a bearded man kneeling and looking up to her on the lower right. A small figure floats to the left above the woman's head. Small architectural details in the background.
