Subject matter
Red Grooms is a multimedia artist best known for his colorful pop-art constructions depicting frenetic scenes of modern urban life. The vivid color, crowded composition, and energized texture of this print is similar to his multimedia constructions. This print is a self-portrait of the artist with Elizabeth Ross, a dancer and a friend of Grooms'. The pair is pictured in the work of another Pop artist, Alex Katz's Pas de Deux V, Red Grooms and Lizzy Ross, screenprint, 1994.  Grooms and Ross met in the late 1970s. During the summer of 1957, Grooms studied under Hans Hoffman at his School of Fine Arts in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Although a Pop Artist, Grooms was influenced by some aspects of Abstract Expressionism.

Physical Description
In the foreground, a man with red-hair wears a striped blue shirt with the top few buttons undone.  He holds a pencil in his left hand. Behind him is a woman with short dark hair, red lipstick, and blue eye shawdow. She wears a white t-shirt with the word "BEBE" on the front. There are framed pictures on the wall behind the man and woman.
