Subject matter
In the lower center of this photograph, a man holds his child on his shoulders as he walks with a crowd of parade-goers, most of whom hold flowering branches in their hands. Other parent/child pairs take up positions on either side of these two central figures, which suggests this is a family oriented event. Much of the image is a whir of balloons, flowers, and smiling faces. This focus on familial joviality contrasts to the commonly known images of Soviet military parades on Red Square.
