Subject matter
Marilyn Bridges describes the markings and monuments that she photographs from above as “the messages of humankind.” As a pilot and photographer, she documents contemporary landscapes connected to ancient times, which addresses the human relationship to the earth and environment. This photograph depicts Teichos Dymaion in Greece, an ancient acropolis in cape Áraxos, also known as the Wall of Dymaeans or Castle of Kaloriá. It is the only example of a fortified Mycenaean Acropolis in Western Greece, consisting of towers, impressive walls, the monumental gates, bastions, houses, and altars.
