Credit LineGift of Dr. Seymour and Barbara K. AdelsonSubject matterMaki Haku made many prints similar to
Poem 71-73 that resemble abstract shapes but they are actually kanji which are Chinese characters that are used in Japanese writing. Some of the prints feature true kanjis while others are his own artistic interpretation of a kanji or possibly even one that he made up entirely. This piece is subtitled
Woman and it appears to be a variation that Maki Haku created from the traditional character shape. The strokes of blue were worked into the print by the artist after he pulled the paper off of the press.
