Credit LineBequest of the Estate of David Caldwell LeedySubject matterThis print is from the first series Ellsworth Kelly did with Gemini G.E.L. printers. Kenneth Tyler, the owner of the printshop, engineered a process that would create the crisp lines that Kelly's work required by using a paper that ink would sit on rather than absorb. The minimalist composition and stark colors of this piece are characteristic of Kelly's work which was often compared to Color Field, geometric abstraction, Minimalist, and Pop Art movements although he tried to avoid classification.
