The continuing vitality of the Korean ceramic tradition is represented by this modern jar, designed for storing kimchi, or pickled cabbage. The potter relied solely on his hands, both to create the massive form on a kick wheel and to decorate it by impressing horizontal bands in the wet clay and tracing abstract plant forms in the wet glaze.
