Made from coolibah burl, a rare wood native to Australia, Enclosed Vessel retains its natural, rough finish. Its design and surface texture impart a primitive feeling to the piece, while the two curving arms enveloping the bowl mark a departure from the traditional vessel form. The characteristics of this piece place it within a woodcrafting tradition linked to historic categories, which include specimens of rare and natural forms, where material and human skill merge to create the extraordinary. Martin skillfully brings to the wood the sophistication of his visions. His work reflects a deep respect for the environment, while capturing the spirit of Australia.
