Subject matter
This photograph depicts a square surrounded by large white buildings. Two teams of horses carrying loads of goods on pack saddles are depicted. The first team is visible in the lower right foreground, with three or more dark horses leading, and a white horse in the rear. The second team is barely discernable in the space between the large white buildings. J. Craig Annan contrasts the organic forms of the horses against the angular shapes of the architecture. This image contains a wide tonal range from whites to blacks.
