Train tracks curve from bottom center upward through center and off to the left; steaming locomotive pulling three freight cars past three storage sheds located in center of track loop. The background shows 3 mountain peaks, echoed in three clouds overhead. In the foreground, bottom corners are trees or other dense foliage. Artist's sketch from life; Kirchner developed a rapid, stroke-oriented (as opposed to detail-oriented) sketch style when out in the world.

At the center of the etching are three or four amorphous figures in white and two shades of black, made in crosshatching. The figures are entwined and have animal and bird-like features. The background is crosshatched to the edges of the page. The print is signed (l.r.) "Max Ernst" and numbered (l.l.) "57/70" in pencil.

A large central figure represents God towers seen in the radiating rays of light and clouds that surround him.. On the forehead of his blocky, totemic head is a third eye. His left arm crosses over his middle and holds fire. His right hand extends down to the lower right corner as reaching down. The words "Vater Unser" are at the very top; "Der Du Bist" across God's waistline; "im Himmel" along the bottom.
