Credit LineGift of Mr. and Mrs. Homer KripkeSubject matterAntonio Mušič grew up moving frequently around Eastern Europe due to difficult political times. He grew quite fond of the Dalmatia region, becoming inspired and comforted by it's vast landscape and the animals and nature that occupied the area. Later, he applied his love of landscape and animals to his art, such as this piece, inspired by the natural world that he grew up around. This work likely depicts the artist's interpretation of animals he saw while traveling through Dalmatia employing his typical flat perspective and archaic forms to portray his affinity for the natural world. In his artistic training, Mušič developed a personal style that combined influences from early Italian Byzantine and Renaissance painters.
Physical DescriptionThis print shows six igloo-like forms in two rows of three, each drawn in different striped or dotted patterns in blacks, browns, and reds. Two smaller, half-moon shapes float at the top. The background is a light beige.
