Subject matter
The art collector and gallerist Leo Castelli first saw Jasper Johns' work in 1958 and they quickly formed a close professional relationship. As a result, this poster is for an exhibition of drawings that was held at Castelli's gallery in 1970. The show featured a number of his more iconic subjects, like the American flag, a subject he also explored in paint and mixed media, as well as more minimalistic pieces like the green work depicted on the poster.

Alongside Rauschenberg, Johns was part of the Neo-Dada, American Pop Art aesthetic in the 1960s. As an innovative printer and painter, he often incorporated familiar objects or symbols into his pieces, like flags and numbers, but he was meticulous about the process behind the creation.

Physical Description
At the top of the page, there are two large vertically-oriented rectangles with a row of text below. The rectangle on the left is green, with thin lines to create texture, and the rectangle on the right is a cream colored rectangle with an American flag design faintly visible. In dark letters the text along the bottom of the poster reads, "JASPER JOHNS  DRAWINGS  JANUARY 10-31  LEO CASTELLI NEW YORK". The poster is signed in pencil by the artist (l.r.) "Jasper Johns".
