The indolence of this reclining male nude is evident in his slack pose and indifferent expression. GuÇrin also created a companion piece to represent an opposing type, "The Watchful One." The sensuously luminous flesh, the coy placement of the sitter's leg to hide his genitals, and the bevy of putti crawling over him create a mood of playful eroticism.
